Person Profile: Improving quality of life for people living with dementia
In this study, we examined whether a person-centred care intervention can help maintain and improve quality of life (QoL) for people living with dementia. Over 15 months, 23 long-term care facilities in German-speaking Switzerland took part, involving care staff and family members of 240 residents living with dementia.
What we did
Together with long-term care facilities, we developed a person-centred tool that supports meaningful, practice-based dialogue. The “Person Profile” provides a structured yet flexible foundation to assess quality of life, safeguard it in a targeted way, and promote it continuously for people living with dementia.
Results
We found a statistically significant improvement in quality of life, measured using QUALIDEM.
To support implementation, we provide a practical template sheet for using the Person Profile - free of charge for partner facilities and the public. It helps teams to assess quality of life in a structured way and to plan targeted actions to improve it.
